Getting Started with
Your VHS Class

The VHS blended learning environment (D2L) can be overwhelming at first.
Read this page and make sure you complete the Student Orientation to become comfortable with D2L before you start your class.

Welcome to VHS

Signing In
  • There are three ways you can log in to your VHS courses page.  Use which ever way you like best but remember to come back here to try an alternative login if you are having issues.  There may be a time when only one of these sites are working due to technical difficulties.
    1. Direct URL to the VHS courses page.  https://courses.vhslearning.org/
    2. Student Login link at the top of the VHS Learning home page.  https://vhslearning.org/
    3. The Virtual High School Genius site.  https://my.vhslearning.org/PublicWelcome.aspx
Your VHS Home
  • Once you have logged in you will be taken to your VHS Home.  (Pictured on the Right)
  • The My Courses section includes the links for your classes when they open.
  • The My Settings section includes options for setting up your profile and adding a picture.
  • You will also see Calendar and News sections that will show dates and news for all of VHS.  Dates and news for your specific class can be found on your course home in D2L when you click on your class link.

Your Course Home
  • Click the link to your class in the Pinned Courses section to open your course. This link will not work until the first day of the VHS semester.
  • The first thing you will see in your VHS course is the course home.  Each class is a little different, but this page should show the name of the course, background information of your teacher, and any class news.  You should always check the News section every time you log in to see if your teacher has any updates or concerns about the current week.
  • When you are ready to start your work for the week you will click on the Lessons link on the navigation bar.
  • VHS classes are broken up into weeks that start on Wednesdays and end on Tuesdays.  Click Start Here to work on your introduction lessons to start your class.  This week will have you run through activities that will teach your rules and procedures that be completed along with your Week 1 lessons.
  • Remember to follow all of the directions in each module and complete all of your tasks before moving on.
  • Pay close attention to due dates because some lessons/modules may be due earlier than the end of the week.
The Student Orientation
  • All students must complete the Student Orientation as part of your Start Here lessons.  Just return to your home screen by clicking on the house icon and click the link to the Student Orientation.
  • There are 12 modules including a quiz to check your understanding.  Click on SO.1 Overview of Student Orientation to open your first module.  You will read the text, watch videos, or complete the tasks that are explained in each module before moving on to the next.  You will use the arrows at the top or bottom of the screen to move from one module to the next.
  • Stop when you complete SO.12 Check Your Understanding. and return to My Home by clicking on the house icon. Return to your class and continue to work on the Start Here and Week 1 lessons in your VHS course.
